MY STORY

The unthinkable happened. And then I had to keep living.

Portrait of a smiling woman with curly blonde hair, wearing a black blazer and a necklace, in an indoor setting with a blurred background.

In 2019, my parents and my sister were murdered.

In an instant, I became something I had no idea how to be. A survivor. Not of the crime itself, but of everything that comes after it. The part nobody prepares you for. The part nobody warns you about.

This is not a story about what happened to my family. That is not mine to tell yet, and it is not the point. This is a story about what happens to the people who are left behind. Because that is the part the world never sees.

The part nobody sees

I learned very quickly that when something like this happens, the world does not stop. It keeps going, completely normal, while yours falls apart. I learned that a grieving family can walk out of the very first meeting with nothing but a stack of business cards and no one whose job is to help them survive. I learned that a case can drag on for years, and that every delay reopens the wound as if it were brand new. I learned that the children in a family like mine can suffer for years and never once be asked about.

I learned all of this the hard way. Alone. In the dark. Searching for anyone who understood, and finding no one.

For a long time, that isolation nearly buried me.

And then something shifted

Somewhere in the middle of it, I realized that everything my family went through, the isolation, the silence, the being forgotten by a system that was supposed to help, was not unique to us. It happens to families everywhere, every single day. And almost no one is talking about it.

I could not change what happened to my family. But I could make sure the next family does not have to walk through the aftermath as alone as I did.

That is when After the Unthinkable was born.

What I do now

After the Unthinkable is two things at once, because my own experience was two things at once.

A soft place to land

For anyone who is grieving, surviving, or lying awake in the middle of the night looking for someone who understands. Through my podcast, I share the honest, hard-won tools that get me through my own days, in the hope that they help someone else get through theirs.

A fight

To change a system that was built to prosecute crimes but was never built to take care of the people left behind. I am working toward real, concrete change, so that families in the future are supported instead of forgotten, seen instead of left behind.

I am not a professional advocate. I am not an expert. I am just someone who went through the unthinkable, refused to let it be the end of my story, and decided to turn the worst thing that ever happened to me into something that might help someone else.

If you are here because you are hurting, I am so glad you found me. You are not alone.

And if you are here because you want to help change things, then welcome to the fight.
